Ivy Anderson and Devon Angus are the authors of Alice: Memoirs of a Barbary Coast Prostitute (Heyday Books, 2016) , winner of the California Historical Society Book Award.

Clare Sears is associate professor of sociology and sexuality studies at San Francisco State University. She is author of the book Arresting Dress: Cross-Dressing, Law and Fascination in Nineteenth Century San Francisco (Duke University Press, 2014).
